-
Make a list of your
stored items and keep it in a safe place away from the
facility. If possible attach receipts, proof of
purchase and warranties for proof of ownership.
-
Use a high quality
lock and always check the door before leaving. If
it moves, it is NOT secure! It is your
responsibility to secure the door of your unit.
-
Don't stack items
too high. Getting to them may become dangerous or
time consuming.
-
If you plan to
access your stored items frequently, invest in a unit
one size larger and leave an aisle in the center for
easy access.
-
Store and Label items
you consider important in the front of your unit for
easy access.
-
Disassemble
large/bulky furniture to save space.
-
Cover your stored
items with protective covers such as heavy duty plastic,
sofa covers, mattress totes or tarps.
-
Keep your unit
clean to prevent attracting pests to your unit.
-
Leave doors
slightly open on appliances to prevent mold or mildew.
-
Package or box as
many items as you can. Protecting your stored
goods inside boxes or plastic bins will save moving,
unpacking and cleaning time.
-
Label all storage
containers on top and sides for easy recognition.
-
Keep heavier items
on the ground and stack lighter items on them. You
can fit much more in a smaller space if you stack and
pack it right.
-
Protect clothing in
air tight containers.
-
Consider using pallets
if storing for long periods of time.
-
Some items may need to
be stored in Climate Controlled units to prevent damage.
